Hello. First of all, I'm surprised at how nervous I am to write this entry. I'm feeling quite shy. I used to always get self-conscious when I would write diary entries. This feels a lot like that. So this blog may feel a tad awkward at first. Well, honestly, it might stay awkward the whole way through.
It is exactly six weeks to the day until I depart for my six month internship as a naturalist at The University of Georgia campus in Monteverde, Costa Rica. I don't know much about the area or the program. When people ask me what it will be like I pretty much just throw up my hands and give a nervous smile. I only know a few things for certain:
1) It will rain. A lot.
2) The roads will be a mess.
3) I will have a place to sleep and food to eat.
4) There will be sloths.
I am fascinated with sloths. I think I am the opposite of a sloth. Part of my desire to live in a rural area of Costa Rica is to learn how to quiet my anxious mind. I find sloths to be highly inspirational in this regard.
Since I don't know much about what I'm getting myself into, I'll just let you in on my goal for this blog: to act as a virtual natural history exhibit of the Monteverde Cloud Forest in Costa Rica (as seen by me).
That's all for now.
